Can my child practice speaking with an AI? Honest answers for parents

Before their child talks with Leo, Voiczy's AI tutor, parents ask us the same few questions. Here are plain answers, including what Leo can't do.

How does my child talk with Leo?

Your child talks out loud with Leo, a live voice tutor, in the language they are learning. Leo speaks first; your child taps the microphone, answers, and taps again to send. Leo listens, replies by voice and gently corrects mistakes. If your child gets stuck, they can ask Leo for help in their home language.

What age is it for?

Voiczy is made for children aged 3 to 14. Leo talks with each child at their own speaking level: short, simple sentences for beginners, and longer answers as they improve. A parent sets up the account and each child's profile.

Which languages can my child practice?

Your child can practice any of Voiczy's 19 languages with Leo, including Spanish, French, German, Dutch, Turkish, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. You choose the language for each child, so brothers and sisters can each learn a different one.

Is it safe, and what happens to my child's voice and data?

We don't store recordings of your child's voice. Each voice message goes to Google's AI to be turned into text and checked, and an OpenAI model writes Leo's replies from that text, your child's first name, age and level, and what Leo remembers from earlier chats. We keep the chat texts, a summary for you and a few things Leo remembers about your child, such as interests or pets; we review the chats to improve how Leo teaches, and delete it all when you delete your child's profile. Leo is told to stay on child-friendly topics and never to ask for a surname, address, school or phone number.

How long does my child use it each day?

A child can send Leo up to 40 messages a day. Leo says goodbye on the last one, and the count starts again the next day. You can also set a daily time for each child in your parent account, as a goal, a gentle reminder or a firm stop.

What can't Leo do that a human tutor can?

Leo only hears your child: he can't see them, watch how they shape a sound, or help with handwriting. He sometimes mishears a word, especially with a quiet microphone or a very young voice. And he can't replace real conversations with people who speak the language, like a tutor, family or friends.

What does it cost, and how does the trial work?

Voiczy Premium costs €7 a month, or €60 a year. Both plans start with a 7-day free trial of everything, which needs a payment method, and nothing is charged during the trial. Voiczy's free activities need no card: the first 2 modules of vocabulary, sentences and maths, 2 story books, and a 5-message chat with Leo, the AI tutor.

Can I cancel during the trial?

Yes. Cancel in the trial and you won't be charged. Your child can keep using Voiczy until the last day of the trial, and keeps their progress if you come back. On the web, you cancel from your plan in your parent account; if you subscribed in the app, you cancel in the App Store or Google Play.
